Custom Golf Carts For Golf Cart Connoisseurs

Does a golf car have to be licensed?

There are a lot of neighborhoods where a golf cart can be used to drive around with no license.  Check with your local DMV to see what is required if you are planning on driving it outside of a gated community.  We can install headlights, brake lights, turn signals, windshields, horns, and seat belts.  Some places also require a license plate light.

What makes a golf cart "street legal"?

There are several requirements that will make a golf cart "street Legal", they include a windshield, seatbelts, brake lights, headlights, tail lights, front and rear turn signals, rearview mirror and horn. Note, many private communities require golf cars to be street legal for safety reasons, even when they are only operated on private streets. Also a registration and license plate may be required. Our team at Bad Ass Golf Carts will be happy to assist you with making your golf cart "street legal" and answer any questions you may have.

If you buy a LSV (low speed vehicle) created under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #500, the maximum speed allowed by law is 25mph. Otherwise the speed cap is 20mph. LSVs must be not only street legal, but also have additional safety equipment: seat belts, turn signals, rear view mirror, an AS5 plexiglas or better windshield and a l7- digit VIN # created according to federal law. The Cal Roadster, Hummer, and Escalade carts can be NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) certified.

How fast can a golf car go?

We can do upgrades to Golf Carts that make them go faster. Some of our Electric Carts can go about 35 MPH, some of the Gas ones with a 24HP Honda Motor can go as fast as 45 MPH (maybe a little faster).

How often does an electric golf car need to be charged?

For the best operation Bad Ass Golf Carts advises our customers to charge the golf cart overnight so it's ready to go the next morning. The chargers will do a fast charge up to about 80% of capacity, then trickle charge the rest of the way. It's recommended that you let the cart charge fully for optimum results. When the golf cart is fully charged, the charger will shut off automatically. The computer is the brains of the charging system and makes sure the battery is never overcharged; it will even charge the golf cart for you if you go on vacation.

Can I get air conditioning, stereo or other accessories?

Sure. Bad Ass Golf Carts can install stereos and many other accessories. Some available accessories include Game Consoles, DVD Players, and flip-flop rear seats that makes the rear seats fold down into a flat storage area, as well as a golf bag holders, and of course, Custom Paint, Seats, Long Travel Suspension on our off-road Carts, and Wheels and Tires.

How often should I have my golf cart serviced?

It depends on how much "use" is being put on the vehicle. Normally if the car is used for golf 3 or more times a week, you should have it serviced every 6 months. More specifically, we recommend having your cart serviced by a trained technician every 50 hours or 50 rounds of golf.

What kind of maintenance should I be doing myself?

You need to do 3 things on a monthly basis:

1. Wash battery tops, battery compartment, underside of vehicle & clean with baking soda/water solution.

2. Keep battery water filled to proper level with distilled water. We also have a Single Point Battery Watering System that is available to make this much easier. About $350 for most carts.

3. Check tire air pressure & adjust if necessary.

What kind of batteries are used in Golf cars?

Golf cars use "deep-cycle" batteries. Deep-cycle batteries can be discharged almost completely and recharged several times without any major damage. A regular car battery cannot withstand this severe cycling without having its life significantly shortened.

How often should I charge my batteries?

For chargers with a manual timer usually 6 - 8 hours after 18 holes of golf or 4 - 6 hours after 9 holes. As a rule of thumb double the charge time of estimated use. For example: If used for 3 hours charge for 6 hours. If you have an automatic charger, just plug it in. It will shut off when the batteries are fully charged. To get the longest life from your batteries, do not run them completely down before charging. You should ensure your car is in the neutral position and the key is turned off when charging your batteries.

Is it important to use distilled water in my batteries?

It is best to use distilled water in your batteries to avoid adding minerals that are found in other types of water, do not use tap water!

What can I use to clean my plastic windshield?

Never use ammonia or alcohol based cleaners on acrylic! You can normally find cleaners that are safe for acrylic/plastic either at an auto parts store or a hardware store.

Can I wax my Golf Cart?

Yes, it is a great idea to wax the finish of your golf cart, at least once a year. A good carnauba wax works well.
